Yikes! Coming in 2 hours later than usual cuts so much of our day, but the students have risen to the challenge and are on task working hard. Most of them commented as they went to lunch that it was too early to go!
We are working on some big topics right now. Our animals in winter quiz is still set for tomorrow, Thursday January 13. The class will be bringing home their booklet today to help them study a little bit more tonight. We have a review game planned for this afternoon, so by the time they practice tonight, they should have few errors. This quiz marks the start of more consistent quizzes and tests in 2nd grade. Be on the lookout for more study guides and to help your students begin learning how to be good at studying.
We have also leaped into our geometry unit in math. This means a slight break from the addition algorithms we were learning, but they will be coming back very soon. The students are becoming pros at "Eshbaugh Karate"! Ask them to show you the "very serious" moves for the following vocabulary: point, line segment, line, parallel lines, intersecting lines, vertex, polygon, and angle. We still have a few more to learn.
In reading, we are studying the features that are found in nonfiction books. So far, we have investigated captions, maps, and photographs. When we are finished learning about how these features help us organize the information in nonfiction books, we will all show off our learning by creating a non fiction brochure.
Upcoming topics include... government, map skills, continents, trade-first subtraction, mysteries, context clues, and word choice in writing.
